Cinematic expression with a full-frame sensor
The full-frame FX2 delivers stunning cinematic imagery, blending high resolution with beautiful bokeh. Equipped with a back-illuminated Exmor R™ CMOS sensor supported by our BIONZ XR™ image processing engine and advanced AI processing unit, the camera offers high sensitivity, wide latitude, and 33 MP resolution, giving ambitious cinematic visionaries everything they need.
Outstanding image quality for maximum editing flexibility
The FX2’s full-frame sensor produces footage with smooth, natural gradations thanks to 15+ stops of latitude when recording with S-Log3, ensuring even high-contrast scenes are captured in full detail. Base ISO for S-Log3 capture can be set to 800 or 4000, and the camera supports S-Gamut3/S-Gamut3.Cine color gamuts for broad compatibility. That all adds up to maximum editing efficiency when shooting with multiple cameras.
Log recording modes for production flexibility
For creative flexibility, there are three modes available for Log recording—Flexible ISO, Cine EI, and Cine EI Quick—with Cine EI widely used in professional filmmaking for footage shot with post-production in mind. Based on the shooting environment, choose a base ISO of either 800 or 4000 to maintain maximum latitude throughout the shoot, allowing specific tonal ranges to be enhanced in post-production to achieve your desired cinematic look.
Multiple recording formats for versatile shooting and editing
7K oversampling is used with full pixel readout and no pixel binning when shooting full-frame 4K (QFHD 3840 x 2160), and 4K 60p (59.94p) recording is available in Super 35 mm mode. With 10-bit depth, 4:2:2 color sampling, an efficient MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 codec, and Intra recording including DCI-4K (4096 x 2160), outstanding quality is assured.
[1] Recording format [2] Shooting frame rate [3] Recording frame rate [4] When recording in XAVC HS format, 29.97p or 25p is not available.
Import up to 16 user LUTs
With the FX2, LUTs can be imported and applied to the LCD monitor and the electronic viewfinder while shooting or playing back movies. Up to 16 user LUT files can be imported from memory cards or Sony’s Creators’ Cloud and selected as needed. The LUT used for recording can then be embedded in the video metadata for post-production.
Create moods right in the camera
Picture Profile presets make it easy to adjust color and gradation to create a variety of moods in camera. These include the invaluable S-Cinetone™, which produces beautiful skin tones. Imported user LUTs can be registered as PPLUT 1 to 4 and applied during recording, and an expanded range of 12 Creative Look profiles, including FL2 and FL3, offers a comprehensive selection of visual moods for many recording needs.
Desqueeze display for anamorphic lenses
Anamorphic lenses are a popular choice for creating a distinctly cinematic look. The FX2 is equipped with a desqueeze display mode that allows monitoring in the standard CinemaScope aspect ratio of 2.39:1 while shooting with anamorphic lenses. It offers 1.3x and 2.0x desqueeze settings, and Sony’s Monitor and Control app provides even more detailed settings for monitoring on a tablet or other external display devices.
Frame rate freedom
An FPS menu inherits features from Cinema Line higher-end models, including a [Variable] setting that allows intuitive frame-rate control: up to 2.5x slow motion at 4K resolution, or up to 5x slow motion when recording in Full HD at up to 120fps.
An extensive range of expressive E-mount lenses
Sony offers a range of more than 70 high-performance E-mount lenses, including ultra-wide angles, super telephoto zooms, exquisite primes and powered zooms. Combine with Sony original microphones for outstanding sound quality and choose from a variety of other accessories to bring your creative vision to life.
Designed for solo shooting

Compact and lightweight with built-in accessory mount points
With the same compact flat-top design as the Cinema Line FX3 and FX30, the FX2 is ideal for handheld shooting as well as gimbal and drone mounting. The magnesium alloy exterior has 6.35 mm screw holes in three locations for mounting accessories, and two additional screw holes are located on the bottom panel for secure tripod mounting.
AI-based Real-time Recognition AF
Equipped with a powerful AI processing unit, the FX2 is capable of Real-time Recognition AF for humans, animals, birds, vehicles and even insects. A detection frame indicates the recognized subject and tracking can be initiated simply by touching the subject on the monitor screen. Advanced human pose estimation technology accurately recognizes subject movement, and human eye recognition has been improved by about 30% compared to the FX3/FX30.
Fine-tuned focus control
AF Assist allows seamless switching to manual focus for smooth focus transitions, while a range of 7 autofocus transition speed settings and 5 sensitivity settings offer detailed control. Focus Map makes it easier to visualize depth of field by overlaying focus info on the live view display, and the Breathing Compensation function can significantly enhance image stability.
Automatic framing using advanced AI
The FX2’s Auto Framing feature automatically crops and tracks a subject to keep them in a prominent position when the camera is mounted on a tripod, producing footage that looks like it was shot by an experienced operator. The Framing Stabilizer function automatically keeps the subject in the same position within the frame, which can be useful, for example, when the camera operator is moving alongside the subject.
Stabilization for dynamic handheld shooting
Active Mode boosts stabilization while walking and shooting. Or, for shooting at an even faster pace, there’s Dynamic active Mode that utilizes electronic stabilization for as much as 30% greater effect, making it possible to shoot stable footage even when running around. Corresponding stabilization metadata is embedded in the footage for efficient post-production.
Stills at the flip of a switch
A single switch selects MOVIE or STILL mode and instantly recalls all the corresponding settings. In addition to providing 33 MP resolution and continuous bursts at up to 10fps, the camera is equipped with a [Creating still images from Shot Marks] function that allows you to snap stills while recording or playing video that has a previously imported user LUT.
Visual consistency across stills and videos
The Log mode is also available for stills, making it possible to shoot JPEG and HEIF still images with the S-Log3 gamma curve used during a video shoot, so the same workflow can be easily applied during post-production. Transform your stills in editing applications such as Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve, ready for a variety of uses while maintaining the same look.
Operability for professional filmmaking
The FX2 is designed for maximum operability during professional use, supporting a smooth workflow throughout production.

Tiltable high-definition electronic viewfinder
Keep focused on shooting even in bright or distracting environments, thanks to an OLED viewfinder with approximately 3.68 million dots. Magnification is 0.70x (50 mm lens, infinity focus, -1 m diopter), and the angle of view and eyepoint are optimized for video recording. The viewfinder itself can be rotated from 0 ° to +90° for easy viewing at just about any angle, and the eye cup can be removed or reversed left-to-right as necessary.
Frequently used parameters all in one place
The FX2 inherits the BIG6 (Home) screen from high-end CineAlta cameras such as VENICE, which allows you to easily monitor six essential parameters in MOVIE mode: FPS (frame rate), ISO, Shutter (speed/angle), Aperture or ND Filter, Look, and White Balance. This proven BIG6 (Home) screen contributes to smooth, intuitive operation, and provides quick access to Variable/Fixed parameters.
Effective heat management
Enjoy uninterrupted video recording time for formats up to 4K 59.94p. Heat buildup is prevented through a combination of an internal cooling fan, a highly thermal conductive graphite material used in the image stabilization unit, and an innovative design that allows ample air intake even when the LCD monitor is closed. The cooling fan has three modes that can be selected according to shooting conditions: Auto, Minimum, and Off while Recording.
Plenty of power for long shoots
A high-capacity NP-FZ100 battery and effective power management provide up to 100 minutes of actual video time or up to 155 minutes of continuous shooting. For longer shooting times, continuous power can be supplied from a power adaptor or a mobile battery that supports USB Power Delivery (PD). The optional DC-C1 DC Coupler can supply stable power without occupying the camera’s USB Type-C® terminal.
Digital audio without degradation
With an XLR Handle Unit XLR-H1 attached, the FX2 can record high-quality audio via two XLR connectors and a digital audio interface without the need for extra batteries or cables. Microphones equipped with XLR connectors are available separately. Four-channel audio, 24-bit recording, and other settings can be easily applied.
Easy live streaming
The FX2 is also a great choice for live streaming to a computer via USB (UVC/UAC) or a wireless or wired LAN network. You can stream up to 4K (3840 x 2160) 59.94p video via LAN while simultaneously recording to the camera’s memory card. LAN streaming protocols include RTMP, RTMPS, and SRT.
