Enhanced subject recognition and tracking
Enhanced subject recognition and tracking
Real-time Recognition AF: Human pose estimation
AI processing in the new BIONZ XR2 processing engine improves recognition by approximately 30% over the α7 IV. Human pose estimation technology uses detailed form and pose data to achieve reliable human eye recognition as well as body and head position, even with challenging subjects. The camera can also recognize multiple subjects, meaning it can pick out and track the desired subject in a group.
Real-time Recognition AF: Wider subject recognition
Real-time Recognition AF supports [Human], [Animal], [Bird], [Insect], [Car/Train] and [Airplane] recognition, and an [Auto] mode can automatically detect the subject type. The α7 V offers about 30% improved animal recognition and about 50% improved bird recognition. It now also recognizes the eyes of some grazing and small animals in addition to the eyes, heads and bodies of dogs, cats, and similarly featured animals.
Reliable Real-time Tracking
AI-based Real-time Tracking accurately focuses on and tracks the selected subject when the shutter button is half-pressed. If the subject cannot be recognized or subject recognition AF is OFF, Sony’s original algorithm processes color, pattern, and spatial data at high speed for reliable focus and tracking. If [Touch Tracking] is engaged, simply touch a subject on the monitor to instantly select it for tracking.
High-density 759-point focal plane phase-detection AF
759 AF points in a high-density focal plane phase-detection AF system cover approximately 94% of the image area for precise focusing. The BIONZ XR2 engine processes the large amount of data from the image sensor in real time to ensure ideal focus even in challenging situations, such as when shooting small subjects or night scenes.
Flexible focus area settings
The α7 V now offers XS, S, M, L, and XL focus area spot sizes. The XS size can make focusing easier when foreground objects such as branches are in the way. It is also possible to create a custom focus area of a specified size and even a custom vertical aspect ratio, enabling you to optimize focusing for a wide variety of subjects and scenes. Simply set the shape and size via the touch-sensitive monitor.
Precise AF in low light
The latest AF algorithms achieve high AF precision down to light levels as low as EV-4.0 in AF-S mode (ISO 100 equivalent, F2.0 lens) so that AF is precise and reliable even in low light.
Speed
Speed
Blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30fps
High-speed bursts at up to 30fps with uncompromised AF/AE tracking are now possible when using the electronic shutter, and there is no viewfinder blackout when shooting stills. Up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second mean that you can capture fleeting moments with confidence, even when shooting fast, unpredictable action or portraits where expressions can change in an instant.
Pre-Capture for those pre-shutter release moments
Capture that decisive moment, even if it’s in the past. With this feature, half-pressing the shutter button to set focus enables the camera to capture a series of images, starting from up to one second before the shutter button is fully deployed.
Speed boost for critical action shots
Use one-button Continuous Shooting Speed Boost to temporarily change the continuous shooting speed at any time while shooting a continuous burst—making sure you never miss that key moment. This function is best used when you can roughly predict the timing of the desired shot, and it’s now available even while shooting single frames.
Smooth, detailed video
Smooth, detailed video
7K oversampled 4K 60p recording with full pixel readout and no pixel binning
The new BIONZ XR2 processor and Exmor RS sensor enable full pixel readout with no pixel binning when recording full-frame. This allows 3.3x the data required for 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160) to be compressed into spectacularly detailed 4K 60p images with minimal moiré and jaggies.
In-camera audio noise reduction
The Audio Noise Reduction function digitally reduces continuous noise. Working with the camera’s built-in microphone and external microphones, this function can dramatically reduce wind noise and other continuous environmental noise, including mechanical noise from a power zoom lens. Choose between two settings: [Wind NR] and generic [Noise Cut].
High frame rate 4K recording at up to 120p
Internal 4K recording at up to 120p makes it possible to produce up to 5x slow motion video with outstanding 4K resolution. Frame rates up to 240fps are available when recording at Full HD resolution, allowing up to 10x slow motion playback (24p recording in S&Q mode) for detailed sports analysis and more. A variety of formats are supported, including 4:2:2 10-bit recording, Long GOP, and All Intra.
Stable Active Mode handheld shooting
Make the most of smooth handheld movie shooting thanks to Active Mode optical image stabilization, which now supports 4K 120p recording. The stabilization unit, gyro sensors, and image stabilization algorithms enable the camera to precisely detect and correct for movement. Stabilization is even more effective when the body is used with a compatible stabilized lens.
Extreme stabilization with Dynamic active Mode
The Dynamic active Mode adds electronic stabilization to the optical stabilization system for even greater effect. This improves stabilization approximately 30% more than just Active Mode, making it possible to shoot smooth, stable images even when running around with the camera.
Designed for creative possibilities
Designed for creative possibilities
4-axis monitor maximizes shooting flexibility
The 4-axis multi-angle monitor adjusts upward by 98°, downward by 40°, and sideways by 180°, and when open, it can rotate up to 270º. Its 3.2-type 2.1-million-dot (3:2 aspect ratio) touch sensitive display panel has a wide color gamut and provides clear viewing even in bright conditions. [Monitor Low Bright] reduces brightness and battery drain when the camera has not been used for a pre-settable amount of time.
Durable magnesium alloy chassis
A lightweight, high-rigidity magnesium alloy is used for the top cover, front cover, internal frame, and rear cover. The grip and front cover are manufactured as a single unit for high rigidity, while the mount is attached by six screws for extra strength. This provides maximum durability on shoots requiring a variety of large, heavy lenses, like super-telephoto lenses.
3.68 million-dot Quad-VGA OLED electronic viewfinder
The 3.68 million-dot (approx.) Quad-VGA OLED electronic viewfinder delivers clear viewing to ensure clarity in the widest possible range of shooting environments. You can adjust brightness and colour temperature for optimum viewing in any situation and set the finder frame rate to [Standard] (60fps) or [High] (120fps).
Dust- and moisture-resistant design
Refinements throughout the camera’s body achieve outstanding dust and moisture resistance. External seams and the battery cover feature a sealed structure that effectively prevents intrusion of dust and moisture, maximizing reliability even in challenging outdoor conditions.
Effective heat dissipation
Effective heat dissipation allows 4K 60p 4:2:0 8bit video to be recorded continuously for around 90 minutes. A unique Σ (sigma) shaped graphite component built into the image stabilization unit allows the image sensor, a major source of heat inside the camera body, to move freely during image stabilization while conducting heat away for efficient heat dissipation.
Designed for comfort
The α7 V has been refined for improved hold and manageability to minimize fatigue, particularly when using heavy telephoto lenses or shooting for long periods of time. The grip fits comfortably in the palm of the hand while the location and angle of the shutter button have been carefully designed for effortless access.

It incorporates AI-based Real-time Recognition AF and Real-time Tracking, plus accurate, stable color reproduction. In an upgrade from its predecessor, the α7 V includes a lightweight RAW format, while user interface, networking, and file management functions have all been refined. |
| Excellent image quality | The new 33.0 effective megapixels sensor and BIONZ XR2 processing engine deliver up to 16 stops of dynamic range. Smooth gradations from shadows to highlights enable highly effective HDR processing when needed, and effective noise reduction applied at all sensitivities achieves high resolution throughout the ISO 100–51200 still and movie range. |
| Creative Look creates visual moods in-camera | The Creative Look function makes it easy to create visual moods in-camera. 12 presets are provided, including [FL2] and [FL3] selections. The presets can be used as they are or edited to create custom looks. Use seven parameters to adjust contrast, saturation, highlights, shadows and more while viewing the results on the monitor display. Custom Looks can be saved for later use. |
| Deep learning-based light source estimation for accurate white balance | Enjoy improved auto white balance (AWB) performance thanks to deep learning technology for light source color estimation. The α7 V offers more accurate, stable white balance in settings that can be challenging for conventional AWB systems, such as those that include a mix of skin tones, vegetation, shade and more. [1] Shot on α7 IV [2] Shot on α7 V |
| Composite RAW support | Composite RAW shooting automatically captures multiple RAW images that can then be transferred to a computer and composited. The enhanced [NR Shooting] setting produces low-noise images while maintaining high resolution even at mid to high sensitivities. [Shooting for HDR] captures high dynamic range, with options for the simultaneous capture of 4, 8, or 16 images at 30fps. [1] Composite RAW [Shooting for HDR] |
| Extended RAW Processing offers enhanced RAW development | The Imaging Edge Desktop application now includes an Extended RAW Processing feature that allows you to take full advantage of the large amount of information in RAW image files for enhanced RAW development, particularly with moving subjects. Use the [Extended NR] for extremely low noise while maintaining full resolution or try [Extended Hi-Res] for 4x the normal pixel count and reduced noise. |
| 5-axis optical stabilization for up to 7.5-step central and 6.5-step peripheral stabilization | An advanced optical stabilization unit, gyro sensors, and algorithm accurately detect and correct image shake. Up to 7.5-step central and 6.5-step peripheral stabilization allow handheld shooting without the need to boost sensitivity. Take advantage of compatible lenses for better stabilization, with the camera effectively suppressing shake even when shooting at telephoto focal lengths. [1] Yaw [2] Roll [3] Pitch |
| More efficient, lightweight RAW format | A lightweight RAW format achieves high image quality in smaller files that are easier to manage. The [Compressed (HQ)] format provides even greater compression in lightweight RAW files while prioritizing image quality, and the [Compressed] format allows for extended shooting. |
| Real-time Recognition AF: Human pose estimation technology | AI processing in the new BIONZ XR2 processing engine improves recognition by approximately 30% over the α7 IV. Human pose estimation technology uses detailed form and pose data to achieve reliable human eye recognition as well as body and head position, even with challenging subjects. Multiple subjects can also be recognized, making it possible to track the desired subject. |
| Reliable Real-time Tracking | AI-based Real-time Tracking accurately focuses on and tracks the selected subject when the shutter button is half-pressed. |
| High-density 759-point focal plane phase-detection AF | 759 AF points in a high-density focal plane phase-detection AF system cover approximately 94% of the image area for precise focusing. The processing engine processes the large amount of data from the image sensor in real time to ensure ideal focus even in challenging situations, such as when shooting small subjects or night scenes where focus often falls on the background. |
| Precise AF in low light | The latest AF algorithms achieve high AF precision down to light levels as low as EV-4.0 in AF-S mode (ISO 100 equivalent, F2.0 lens) so that AF is precise and reliable even in low light. |
| Pre-Capture for moments prior to shutter release | Capture that decisive moment, even if it’s in the past. With this feature, half-pressing the shutter button to set focus enables the camera to capture a series of images, starting from up to one second before the shutter button is fully deployed. |
| Speed boost for critical action shots | Use one-button Continuous Shooting Speed Boost to temporarily change the continuous shooting speed at any time while shooting a continuous burst. For example, you can instantly switch from the standard burst rate to a higher rate when the key moment approaches. This function is best used when you can roughly predict the timing of the desired shot, and it’s now available even while shooting single frames. |
| 7K oversampled 4K 60p recording with full pixel readout and no pixel binning | The new BIONZ XR2 processor and Exmor RS sensor enable full pixel readout with no pixel binning when recording full-frame. This allows 3.3x the data required for 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160) to be compressed into spectacularly detailed 4K 60p images with minimal moiré and jaggies. |
| Extreme stabilization with Dynamic active Mode | The Dynamic active Mode adds electronic stabilization to the optical stabilization system for even greater effect. This improves stabilization approximately 30% more than just Active Mode, making it possible to shoot smooth, stable images even when running around with the camera. |
| Auto Framing automatically adjusts composition | Auto Framing uses AI-based subject recognition to automatically keep the subject in a prominent position when shooting movies, even when the camera is stationary—ideal for shooting interviews, music performance, cooking and much more. You can also set the timing at which Auto Framing will begin, the size of the subject in the frame and the tracking speed. [1] LCD monitor [2] Recorded footage |
| S-Log3 supports post-production workflows | The S-Log3 gamma curve helps to maintain smooth, natural gradations from shadows to mid-gray (18% gray), making it easier to grade for high image quality in post-production. S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine color spaces are supported. Imported user LUTs (.cube) can be used as alternatives to the preset picture profiles (PPLUT 1 through 4) to provide the final graded output. [1] Before grading [2] Graded |
| Shot Marks facilitate still image extraction | Enable this function before shooting so that any frames marked with Shot Marks during movie recording are automatically extracted and saved as stills when recording has finished. You can also extract and save any other frames as stills after recording. |
| 4-axis monitor maximizes shooting flexibility | The 4-axis multi-angle monitor adjusts upward by 98°, downward by 40°, and sideways by 180°, and when open, it can rotate up to 270º. Its 3.2-type 2.1 million dot (3:2 aspect ratio) touch sensitive display panel has a wide color gamut and provides clear viewing even in bright conditions. [Monitor Low Bright] reduces brightness and battery drain when the camera has not been used for a pre-settable amount of time. |
| Designed for comfort | The α7 V has been refined for improved hold and manageability to minimize fatigue, particularly when using heavy telephoto lenses or shooting for long periods of time. The grip fits comfortably in the palm of the hand while the location and angle of the shutter button have been carefully designed for effortless access. |
| Durable magnesium alloy chassis | A lightweight, high-rigidity magnesium alloy is used for the top cover, front cover, internal frame and rear cover. The grip and front cover are manufactured as a single unit for high rigidity, while the mount is attached by six screws for extra strength. This provides maximum durability on shoots requiring a variety of large, heavy lenses, like super-telephoto lenses. |
| Effective heat dissipation | Effective heat dissipation allows 4K 60p 4:2:0 8bit video to be recorded continuously for approximately 90 minutes. A unique Σ (sigma) shaped graphite component built into the image stabilization unit allows the image sensor, a major source of heat inside the camera body, to move freely during image stabilization while effectively conducting heat away for extremely efficient heat dissipation. |
| Two USB Type-C® ports | In an upgrade from its predecessor, the α7 V includes two USB Type-C ports support USB PD (Power Delivery) so that you can connect a compatible charger or mobile battery to supply power or charge the internal battery. Power Delivery capacity is now 3–4x higher than the α7 IV. PORT 1 supports SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps (USB 3.2) for high-speed backups and PC remote connection, while PORT 2 supports Hi-Speed USB 480 Mbps (USB 2.0) for USB communication. |
| Advanced Wi-Fi for wireless transfers and remote tethering | Built-in Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11ax) with 2×2 MIMO support provides high-speed wireless communication that has been significantly improved over the α7 IV. Communication on the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands offers maximum speed and stability with minimum interference for news and sports shooters who need to deliver immediately via FTP, as well as for studio environments. |
| Creators’ App | A smartphone application for file transfer, remote shooting, cloud storage management and more. |
| Imaging Edge Desktop | A desktop application that enhances the quality and efficiency of production work such as remote shooting and RAW development. |
| Camera Authenticity Solution (paid service) | Addressing concerns about fake images generated by AI, this system verifies image/video authenticity using unique meta-information from Sony cameras. This enables confirmation that an image was taken with a specific camera, accurately identifies real subjects, and ensures transparency in editing history per the C2PA format. |
| Sony’s goal: zero environmental footprint | Sony’s “Road to Zero” environmental plan aims to achieve a zero environmental footprint by 2050. To achieve that goal, we continue to refine every stage of our camera and accessory manufacturing and distribution cycle to minimize environmental stress, from development through production, packaging and transport. |
| Greater accessibility for all users | At Sony, we want everyone to enjoy digital imaging.
