Instantly switch between three angles of view with Step Crop Shooting
The Step Crop Shooting function allows switching between 35 mm (60 MP), 50 mm (29 MP), and 70 mm (15 MP) equivalents with a simple one-touch operation. Even when you can’t approach the subject, you can shoot at 70 mm equivalent while maintaining a high resolution of 15 MP.
Lifelike color
Stable, accurate AE makes it possible to detect facial skin areas and automatically adjust exposure for optimum brightness and tone, even when the face is backlit, in strong direct sunlight, or facing sideways.
High sensitivity, low noise, and outstanding resolution
The standard ISO range is 100–32000 for both stills and movies, expandable to ISO 102400 for stills. Dynamic range at lower sensitivities is an impressive 15 stops that translates to smooth, natural gradations.

Human pose estimation technology
The RX1R III performs human pose estimation using the innovative AI processing unit. Learned human forms and postures help to recognize not just eyes, but body and head position with high precision. This makes it possible to accurately lock onto and track a wide range of subjects, even if they are facing away from the camera or wearing sunglasses or a helmet, for example.
A wide variety of subjects accurately recognized
The AI processing unit supports [Human], [Animal], [Bird], [Insect], [Car/Train] and [Airplane] recognition. The same wide-ranging subject recognition is provided for stills and movies, and an [Auto] mode simplifies operation by allowing the camera to automatically select the subject type. The [Auto] mode reliably takes care of subject selection in most cases, leaving the user free to concentrate on composition and shooting.
Smarter Real-time Tracking
The upgraded and more reliable AI-based Real-time Tracking makes shooting in a wider range of situations simpler, leaving you free to concentrate on framing and composition. The RX1R III can even track people wearing helmets or animals facing away from the camera.
Wide, high-density AF reliably captures subjects
693 phase detection points in a high-density focal plane phase-detection AF system cover approximately 78% of the image area when shooting stills, achieving accurate focus even when the subject is small. Sony’s Fast Hybrid AF system combines the speed and tracking capabilities of phase-detection AF with the precision of contrast AF.
Accurate AF in low EV -4.0 light
The latest AF algorithms achieve high AF precision down to light levels as low as EV-4.0 in AF-S mode (ISO 100 equivalent). AF is precise and reliable even in low light.

Solidity in design
To boost portability and readiness to react and capture any moment, the top panel is flat with non-protruding dials and a flat vertical Multi Interface (MI) Shoe. Parts with elaborate machining and carefully crafted textures have been combined into a sophisticated design that conveys solidity and density while remaining highly functional, light and easy to use.
Functional tactile grip
Careful design of the positioning and convexity of the rhombic-convex shaped main texture combines with newly developed micro square spindles on the sides to provide a comfortable, non-slip tactile feel.
Iron black coating
A newly developed matte coating expresses a uniform feel with a dense roughness by engineering a balance among composition, density, and tactile impression. An improved sense of solidity and ownership express the character of the camera.

Detailed electronic viewfinder (EVF)
This high-resolution, high-contrast XGA OLED electronic viewfinder has approximately 2.36 million dots and a magnification of about 0.70x.
High-resolution monitor
The large 3.0-type 2.36 million dot (approx.) touch-sensitive LCD panel used in the RX1R III features the Sunny Weather mode for improved visibility in bright conditions, plus manual adjustment to match any ambient light. Touch menu operation is smooth and responsive. When the camera is in standby mode, swiping up on the monitor panel reveals the function (Fn) menu for fast access.
Vertical shooting information display
The LCD monitor and EVF shooting information displays automatically adapt to horizontal and vertical camera orientations, enhancing clarity and simplifying operation in a wide variety of shooting situations.

The NP-FW50 rechargeable battery pack allows up to 300 images to be shot on a single charge, and a USB Type-C® connector that supports USB Power Delivery (PD) allows fast charging from a compatible PD power supply.
LHP-1 Lens Hood
A must-have accessory to prevent unwanted flare and other artifacts when shooting in strong light. The LHP-1 Lens Hood also helps to protect the lens from dust, fingerprints, and impact. Bayonet type attachment makes attachment and removal quick and easy.
TG-2 Thumb Grip
This attractive and practical thumb grip attaches to the camera’s Multi Interface Shoe, enhancing grip comfort and stability so that even one-handed shooting is easy. The thumb grip visually matches overall RX1R III styling so that it looks and feels like part of the camera when installed. It is machined from solid metal, is precisely dimensioned for a perfect fit, and is lightweight while offering sophisticated visual appeal. The Thumb Grip allows full, unimpeded access and smooth overall operation.
LCS-RXL Body Case
The LCS-RXL Body Case is a perfect fit for the compact RX1R III. It is made of a high-quality synthetic leather that matches and enhances the camera’s refined appearance. Full access for USB and HDMI cables, battery, memory card, and tripod attachment is maintained when the camera is in the case. The body case even features a carefully designed grip section that enhances hold on the camera.

Direct upload with Creators’ App
The Creators’ App mobile application makes it easy to transfer images to a smartphone or Sony’s Creators’ Cloud Web service. Images can also be transferred from the camera to a smartphone wirelessly via Wi-Fi or via a wired USB connection.
The grip has been carefully designed for a secure, stable hold while maintaining mobility for active shooting.
Video can be recorded in 4K resolution at a 30p frame rate, or at a high frame rate of up to 120p in Full HD. Active Mode image stabilization provides shooting stability, and the S-Cinetone™ picture profile is available to give a cinematic look.

Easy transfer to a smartphone | The Creators’ App can also be used to transfer images to a smartphone. A smartphone can also be used as a remote control for camera shooting operations, as a monitor to check camera information such as battery and memory card status, to set camera parameters such as date and time and camera name, and to update the camera’s software. |
